Premier Inn - A Potted History
Premier Inn ’s current slogan, Everything’s Premier but the Price, advertised by everyone’s favourite comedian Lenny Henry, has helped it establish itself as the Quality Budget Hotel Chain. The trademark purple theme sets it apart and helps its distinctive brand.
But Premier Inn has had several identities in its past, which it is keen put behind it to avoid confusion with other similarly-named Budget Hotel Chains and to avoid blurring its new brand identity.
Premier Inn started life as Travel Inn, which remained its name until 2004. Travel Inn was a well-known and respected chain which was owned by the Whitbread group.
Then in July 2004, Whitbread acquired the Premier Lodge chain. It quickly merged the Premier Lodges and Travel Inn brands, and the new Premier Travel Inn chain was born.
June 2007 saw Whitbread announcing its re-branding of its budget hotel chain from Premier Travel Inn to simply Premier Inn. Its largest ever advertising campaign featuring Lenny Henry ensured the new Premier Inn brand was quickly and successfully etched into the public psyche, and Premier Inn has not looked back since.
The Award-winning Premier Inn Hotels have a real family bias (see blog posts Premier Inn Voted Best Family Travel Facilities in 2007 and 2008) and www.PremierInn.com Offers Days Out Vouchers With Every Booking ), and there are now few people who do not immediately recognise the purple Premier Inn logo, the Everything’s Premier but the Price slogan, and the image of Lenny Henry in his bright yellow dressing gown.
