Should I bring my expensive SLR digital camera on this cruise? Who guards your belongings while you are at the beach? How safe are the excursions? Belize City, Costa Maya, Cozumel? |

You definitely want a camera. Guard your belongings? Im assuming you mean while your in the water? Its just like going to a normal beach, royal caribbean doesn't have crew members with you..your responsible for all your belongings. The excursions are usually very safe, because they are recommended by the cruise line and organized by the cruise line. they know when your boat leaves and where you need to get back too. making your own excursions is less safe. and can be dangerous. All of those destinations are Beautiful |

I have been on many cruises and always take my camera. While you are on ship you have two options for protecting your camera. You can lock it in your cabin safe (every cabin has one) or you can put it in your luggage and lock the luggage (store it under your bed.) When you go to the beach you are/ will be on your own to protect your belongings (unless you go to a beach that has lockers). You will have to count on friends and family to watch your "stuff ". Most times the beaches are full of people from your ship but you still have to watch that your things do not "walk off ". Excursions are safe as the cruise line takes care to select reputable tour operators and they will not and do not take you into unsafe areas. In addition, the officials of countries that you visit know that they make their money off of the tourist trade and they provide enough police protection and patrols to keep criminal elements away (for the most part). You still have to be on guard and not leave things laying around. I have been to Cozumel many times and also to Costa Maya. Had no problems whatsoever. I have the same cruise booked and will be going to the 3 ports you listed later this year on the Independence. I have cruised on the Freedom, which is an identical ship, and you will enjoy the cruise. Don't miss the free ice show. |
